By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Colombian Andrés Orozco and Belizean Jardehl Muschamp propelled Altitude to the Premier League of Belize 2023-24 Opening Season Championship with their goals in the Finals and Semifinals.
Orozco, who has been the mainstay for the Independence side over the last few seasons, came up big time in the second and definitive leg of the Finals driving Altitude’s two goals that gave them a 2-0 win and the championship over Port Layola at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City on Christmas Eve. Port had held Altitude to a 0-0 draw in Independence but, playing without their injured star striker Gilroy ‘Bredda’ Thurton, they couldn’t hold the fort at home. Orozco nailed them in the 21st and 50th minutes.

But while Orozco is the hero of the Finals, Muschamp was the hero of the semifinals.
Altitude wouldn’t have made it to the Finals had it not been for Muschamp’s two goals that eliminated the defending champions Verdes in the two 1-0 semifinal wins. Muschamp scored a late goal in the 88th minute to give Altitude a 1-0 victory over 2022-23 Champions in the second semifinal in Cayo on December 10. His goal in the first leg on December 2 also came late, in the 81st minute.
While Altitude’s PLB Championship run was a team effort, fans will remember Orozco and Muschamp as the strikers who delivered the second PLB championship in Altitude’s short history at the highest level in Belizean football.
