Alleged mental patient remanded to prison pending psych evaluation after calling mother a ‘b!t$h’

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sanis Torres, 29; a purported mental patient was remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Wednesday pending a psychiatric evaluation after being charged for allegedly calling his own mother a “b!t$h” during a family dispute on Boxing Day.

Torres was arraigned in court on Wednesday but he raised concern about whether he was fully understanding the court proceedings against him as he displayed slurred speech and an inability to answer questions competently. 

His mother, who was in court, explained that Torres is a mental patient who takes medication and has to frequently visit the clinic for his medication and an injection. The court remanded him to prison until January 30, 2024 and ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is fit to enter a plea.
