Ladyville man allegedly beats up common-law-wife because she wouldn’t have sex with him

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Michael Myvette, a Ladyville resident, is out on bail after he was charged with allegedly assaulting his common-law-wife because she didn’t want to have sex with him.

Myvette appeared in court unrepresented on Monday and was read two charges, one of aggravated assault and one of common assault against his common-law-wife. The woman reported to police that between January 5 and 6, when she returned home from a friend, Myvette began yelling at her and hit her. She claims they went to bed and around 3:00 a.m. the next morning, Myvette woke her for sex but when she refused, he began to beat her until she escaped and called the police.

Myvette initially pleaded guilty so as not to waste the court’s time but when he disagreed with the facts of the report, the Magistrate entered an unequivocal not guilty plea on his behalf. He was granted bail in the sum of $200 plus one surety of the same, which he met.
