By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Salvadorans from across Belize gathered at the Belmopan Civic Center to exercise their right to vote in their country’s Presidential elections on Sunday.

For the first time in the country’s history, it introduced the overseas electronic voting allowing Salvadorans living in other countries to exercise their right to vote.

Many of them proudly supporting President Nayib Bukele and his measures to crackdown on gangs.

During an interview with BBN, several Salvadorans shared that they are now freely able to visit their country and enjoy its many sites and food.

Some shared stories of being forced to flee in the late 1980s and early 1990s due to gang violence and threats.

Today, El Salvador has transformed and many that have made Belize their home are able to visit their families in El Salvador.

Last night, Bukele declared victory in the Presidential elections after garnering 1.3 million votes.
