Ministry of Agriculture hosts orientation session for Extension Officers as Sustainable and Inclusive Belize Program commences

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise hosted an orientation session for Extension Officers in Belmopan.

The orientation was held as a pivotal starting point for the implementation of the Sustainable and Inclusive Belize program.

The session, held at the OIRSA conference room, provided valuable insights into the project’s framework, reporting procedures, environmental and social assessment, grievance mechanisms, and other critical aspects.

The Sustainable and Inclusive Belize project, a 5-year initiative generously funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), aims to foster sustainable and inclusive development by directly supporting farmers, agriculture groups, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

During the one-day sensitization exercise, the project coordinators engaged six Extension Officers, specifically hired for the project’s implementation, alongside their respective District Agriculture Coordinators.

The comprehensive session ensured that all participants were well-versed in the project’s objectives, operational procedures, and timeline.

Key highlights of the orientation included an in-depth overview of the project, Result Matrix reporting procedures, environmental and social assessment guidelines, and the establishment of a grievance mechanism. The coordinators emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to achieve the Sustainable and Inclusive Belize project’s goals.

As the project takes its initial strides, the team is optimistic about the positive impact it will bring to farmers, agriculture groups, and MSMEs in Belize.

The Ministry noted that the commitment and dedication of the Extension Officers and District Agriculture Coordinators will play a pivotal role in realizing the program’s objectives.
