Thieves rob US $30 million in cash from money storage facility in Los Angeles

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Thieves got away with a high-tech robbery from Gardaworld, a money storage facility in Los Angeles, that gained them US $30 million in cash on Easter Sunday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBD) and the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating how the thieves were able to access the money storage facility and evade the elaborate security system in the Gardaworld building on Roxford Street in Sylmar in the San Fernando Valley, according to The Los Angeles Times that broke the story.

CNN also reported that the FBI’s Los Angeles Office confirmed to them that they were investigating a ‘large theft’ which could be the largest cash heist in the city’s history. The authorities are looking at the possibility that the heist, which was discovered on Monday, could have been an inside job.

The Los Angeles Times reported that prior to Easter Sunday’s burglary, the largest cash robbery in Los Angeles occurred on September 12, 1997, when thieves, who were eventually apprehended, stole US $18.9 million from the former site of the Dunbar Armored Inc. facility on Mateo Street.
