By Breaking Belize News Staff: Esau Bainton, 31, a Ladyville resident, was convicted in court on Wednesday on a charge of wounding for allegedly pushing his 12-year-old nephew down a flight of stairs.
In court, Bainton disagreed with some of the facts but ultimately pleaded guilty. He could not be offered bail because he is in debt to the court of more than $700 in old fines. Bainton was sentenced to one month in prison.
The child reported that he was at his grandmother’s house in Ladyville when Bainton told him to leave the house, and as he was about to do so, Bainton pushed him down the steps. A doctor classified his injuries as wounding and Bainton was arrested and charged. In court, Bainton told the magistrate that frustrations were high as the family is still grappling with three deaths.
