Ministry of Health and PAHO launch HEARTS Quality Improvement Workshop

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 17, 2024, the Ministry of Health and Wellness in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Belize office launched the HEARTS Quality Improvement Workshop in Belize City.

The workshop is the first of its kind for this region that will provide innovation tools and trainings to implement HEARTS in Belize.

The two-day training commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Jorge Polanco, Deputy Director for Hospital Services and Allied Health and also remarks from Dr. Karen Lewis-Bell, PAHO/WHO Representative for Belize.

The health professionals discussed the continued rollout and positive outcomes from this initiative.

HEARTS is an initiative aimed at quality improvement and strengthening of health systems to improve the management of Cardiovascular Disease Risk and Diabetes Management.

The workshop includes participants from all the health regions, the private sector and the National Health Insurance.

Belize is the 25th country to launch HEARTS.

“We take this opportunity to welcome the technical working team for HEARTS visiting this week from PAHO’s Regional office,” the Ministry said.
