Posted: Saturday, September 10, 2022. 10:34 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Residents in San Pedro say that this morning, the island experienced a storm with heavy showers and strong winds.  Several trees fell along with zinc roofs and other debris.

The electricity was also knocked off for a while.

“Due to the weather, we are unfortunately canceling the Uniform Parade for today. Have a safe St. George’s Caye Day,” the San Pedro Town Council noted on their Facebook page.

The National Meteorological Service of Belize says that moist and unstable conditions are expected to continue.

Showers and thunderstorms will occur mainly in coastal and offshore areas.

In addition, a flood watch is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas.

A strong thunderstorm watch is also in effect for the possibility of severe lightning, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.
