PUP tries to court civil society

Wednesday, May 6^th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: As it launched its challenge on the 13th Senator today, the People’s United Party (PUP) reflected on the political parties’ relationships with civil society since the massive national protests of 2005.

It seemed then that civil society organizations were clearly in lockstep with the United Democratic Party (UDP) who had promised them serious reform of government.

They have not delivered, and the organizations are wary of attaching their fortunes to the PUP lest the same fate befall them. According to Francis Fonseca, they should not have to.

The NGO’s and civil society should sit down with the Government to establish independent boards in control of various aspects of Government that cannot be dictated to. It hopes to convince these potential partners to join with it in a future government.
