First-ever Virtual Music Festival being held this week

Posted: Tuesday, April 28, 2020. 5:28 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to restrict the free movement of people worldwide, Belize’s creative sector is thinking outside the box with the first-ever Belize Virtual Music Festival, set to take place on Friday, May 1.

The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Belize Music Agency, the Office of the Music Ambassador, and Digi, is geared towards raising awareness about the importance of social distancing as well as being a means of supporting Belizean musicians who have also been feeling the economic backlash from the pandemic.

Performances will be done from the living rooms of 19 artists from across the country and live-streamed on social media via the Belize Virtual Music Festival and the Government of Belize Press Office Facebook pages. The event will also feature video interviews on safe
practices during the ongoing crisis from the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities.

“Most importantly, the production will enable the public, our other partners, and friends to contribute to individual artists via an online tip basket www.tips.bz. The assistance will support the artists who are without any means of finance during this difficult time. If successful, a similar concert featuring other Belizean musicians in need of similar assistance will be held at a later date,” the Government of Belize said in a release this afternoon.

Those wishing to assist the initiative or sponsor an artist are encouraged to call 632-3224 or send an e-mail to [email protected].
