By Aaron Humes: The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) has issued its congratulations to the new government after the general election last week and asks for “a continued professional and close working relationship, a strengthened rapport with your office and improved collaboration with our new Government administration.”
The labour syndicate also asked for an introductory meeting, likely virtually, at the Prime Minister’s convenience.
The NTUCB, which controls one seat in the Senate pending efforts to move to a fully elected Upper Chamber, cites various issues on which it wants to see work done, not limited to labour.
These include the COVID-19 pandemic, national economic status, and reducing systemic corruption and introducing accountability, transparency and reform.
“We trust you have listened and will do whatever is within the power of your office to address the changes being demanded by the Belizean people. We will unequivocally support any genuine initiatives aimed at addressing these demands….We wish you and your administration all the best!” the Congress’ statement concluded.
