Government receives $3.5 million ‘Digi Dividend’

Posted: Wednesday, October 13, 2021. 12:30 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: State-owned Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL), operating as Digi, has handed over $3.5 million due to the Government for dividends announced at the September 30th annual General meeting of the company, covering the fiscal year April 2020 to March 2021.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics, received the cheque from Digi Chairman Mark Lizarraga.

Belmopan says it has been paid $10 million in dividend payments in the past 12 months. It remains the majority shareholder in the company as in all public utilities under the Constitution.

Digi’s dividend payment will assist the government’s economic recovery efforts and foster support for the development of Belize.
