By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Health and Wellness expresses condolences on the passing of Dr. Michael Tewes.

“On behalf of the Minister Hon. Kevin Bernard, management and staff of the Ministry of Health & Wellness, we express heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and medical community on the passing of Dr. Michael Tewes,” said the Ministry of Health.

“His contributions to the development of the health reform system was valued and appreciated by the people of this country.

“To the family, our thoughts are with you.

“May you find strength, courage, and peace in this difficult time.”

Dr. Tewes was a veterinarian who graduated from the University of Guelph in 1984. He then earned a Master of Science at the Royal School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1987.

Dr. Tewes was the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture from 2004 to 2008. He also worked as HSE Manager with US Capital Energy and as a project manager with the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute (SIRDI).
