Wednesday, August 20, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: A Tropical Disturbance approaching the Windward Islands looks like it’s headed for development into a named storm.  Forecast models give the system a 50% chance of development by Saturday.

By the start of the next week, the chances of development improve to 70%.

At this time, none of the computer models or medium or long term forecasts show any indication that this system will impact Belize.

At 6 o’clock this evening, the Tropical Disturbance was moving towards the Windward Islands on a west-northwesterly track and at a forward speed of between 10 to 15 miles per hour.

It is expected to move across the Lesser Antilles and into the Caribbean Sea, bringing heavy rainfall across the islands including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands Thursday night and on Friday.

The National Hurricane Centre based in Miami, Florida, says that an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to go investigate the Tropical Disturbance on Thursday.
