Maya Leaders Head to CCJ for Maya Land Rights Hearing

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015. Juan Caal Reporting: Maya leaders are on their way to the CCJ trial in Belize City to hear the final decision of the Maya land rights case.

This morning, the Toledo Alcalde Association President, Alfonso Cal delivered a short prayer and words of encouragement to his fellow Maya people. He spoke to his colleagues with a tone of victory over a long battle that began decades ago by the late Maya activist Julian Cho.

Today, according to the Maya leaders, is a mark of victory over the many years of struggle that the Maya people have endured in Belize. “The way forward is peace and harmony for all of us in Southern Belize,” he told Belize Media Group.

The hearing starts at 10am and the Maya leaders are anticipating a victory with dignity and respect.
