Police Say Orange Walk house fire was arson

By BBN Staff: On March 30th, 2017, police responded to a house fire in Carmelita Village, Orange Walk District.

According to police, the house was partially destroyed by fire as well as some household items.

According to initial investigations, the house was lit on fire by Roberto Garma, 21.He reportedly entered the house through a window and lit fire inside the house. Fortunately the fire was extinguished by one of Garma’s sisters; however he reportedly set the house on fire again five minutes later.
The owner of the house is Maria Caseres, 51, a Honduran national of George Town, Stann Creek.
The house is of Pimenta stick, board material with zinc roofing measuring about 20 feet by 30 feet.

It was not insured and the value of household items are unknown.

Police have since arrested and charged Roberto Garma for the crime of arson.
