By BBN Staff: The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), issued a press release yesterday distancing itself from the release and decision made by Opal Enriquez, former Ms. Belize pageant director, to cut Rebecca Rath’s reign as Miss Belize short.

NICH said  it is in no way associated with the content and explanation of the release sent out by Enriquez. NICH further said that its logo was inadvertently used on Enriquez’s release.

NICH says that it owns the Miis Belize name and has granted permission to the Queen of the Jewel to use the name for the coronation or installment of Miss Belize ambassadors. A representative from the Institute of Creative arts (NICH) sits on the board of directors of the Queen of the Jewel but their functions and activities are “separate”, the statement says.

The statement ends by saying that NICH wishes the Queen of the Jewel the best in its endeavors and remains committed to the promotion and development of the Belize cultural agenda.
