By BBN Staff: Deputy Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Patrick Faber, has declared publicly that ongoing infighting between party members is affecting the party’s political standing.
“All is not necessarily well in the UDP,” Faber said. “There are many of us in the UDP who are not satisfied with some of what has happened, a lot of what has happened.”
Faber went on to say that he feels compelled to flush out members of the party who jeopardize the party’s reputation of having high integrity. He added that he is opposed to having party members on the ticket if they are not like-minded in settling party disputes internally.
Faber has repeatedly distanced himself from members of his party who are involved in scandals and even made a social media post stating that he does not condone corruption, around the same time embattled retired politician, Gaspar Vega, announced his imminent return.
Vega announced his return at a rally in Orange Walk two weeks ago, supported by Belmopan Area Representative John Saldivar. Both Saldivar and Vega have been involved in corruption scandals within the past few months.
Saldivar ended up with weeks of bad publicity after it came out that he had been using Coast Guard vessels to ferry his football team, the Belmopan Bandits, to away games in the cayes. He maintained that he has no apologies for doing so.
Vega has been under continued scrutiny as land documents continue to surface showing an apparent land grab involving members of his family, including a $400,000 payout to his son Andre Vega in compensation for a fraudulent land transaction.
