By BBN Staff: Police are still investigating an armed robbery that happened on Monday morning in San Ignacio Town.
According to authorities, two unmasked men strolled into the UNO Gas Station that is located on the Benque Viejo road in San Ignacio Town and held up the cashier with a 9mm gun.
The ordeal was caught on security camera and several civilians nearby also witnessed the robbery.
The thieves made away with $33,000 in cash and cheques.
According to Head of the Crime Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner Joseph Myvette, the thieves were two of 4 accomplices.
Police have since detained two suspects who are expected to be charged today.
The suspects were caught in Belize City as a result of a joint operation.
According to police, the robbery is believed to be masterminded by well known Belize City criminals.
