Police officer to be charged for fatal traffic accident

BBN Staff:  A police corporal has been served with a notice of intended prosecution for knocking down an elderly man at mile 5 ½ on the San Antonio road in Toledo.

Cpl. Alexander Salam, who is attached to the Belmopan police formation, was driving a government owned pickup truck with other police officer passengers on Monday morning when the incident occurred.

Salam knocked down 69-year-old Selvin Bahadur. Bahadur was riding his bicycle.

Bahadur was taken to the Punta Gorda hospital where he died.

A urine sample was obtained from Salam and sent for testing.

Salam has since been served with his notice.
