119 toddlers complete Roving Caregivers Program

Posted: Monday, July 30, 2018. 5:30 pm CST.

BBN Staff:  One hundred and nineteen toddlers – and their parents – have completed the Roving Caregivers Program (RCP) in the Belize and Toledo Districts.

RCP is an early childhood education program for children between birth to three years old who do not have access to formal early childhood stimulation services.

The educators, called Rovers, work with parents individually or in small groups, providing basic skills and information on how to stimulate their children through play, child development, and health and nutrition to ensure that the children receive better quality care and attention.

To commemorate the toddlers’ completion of the program, ceremonies were held in Belize City and the southern villages of San Jose, Blue Creek, San Felipe, Midway, San Miguel, and San Marcus.

The three-year-old participants proudly accepted their certificates and a package containing a storybook, a coloring book, a pack of crayons, and a pack of playdough to continue their learning.

The Roving Caregivers Program is implemented by the Department of Human Services in the Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation.

The program targets children in disadvantaged conditions with the objective of having a direct impact on children’s overall development resulting in better performance in pre-school and their future education.
