Global Woman Club chooses Belizean as new branch director

Posted: Wednesday, January 30, 2019. 1:24 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Global Woman Club ( GWC), an international organization dedicated to the advancement of women has named a Belizean, Joey Garcia, as the director of it’s new San Francisco branch, set to open in May.

Garcia, who was nominated for a Global Woman Influence Award last year for the charitable work she does in Belize, told Breaking Belize News that the GWC officially announced her appointment in Los Angeles earlier this month. Garcia said that she feels honored to take up the role because it truly emphasizes that the organization caters to women from all over the world.

“It’s international and that’s important to me. I have much pride in being Belizean and being born in Belize, but I also consider myself a global citizen” Garcia said. “I feel like I’ve been blessed by  a sisterhood that is truly going to change the direction for women in the world.”

In 2004 Garcia founded “Rise Up Belize” an organization geared towards empowering Belizean youths through education. Since its inception, thousands of Belizean students at the primary and high school level have attended the organization’s summer camps. Rise Up Belize also offers scholarships for high school students and other support services. In 2018 Garcia also hosted the first-ever Belizean Writer’s Conference, with a 2019 event scheduled in April.
