TEAM NICH win the 2019 La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge

BBN Staff: The team sponsored by the National Institue of Culture and History (Team NICH) dominated the 2019  La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge which is sponsored by Belkin.

Team NICH took first place overall with a completion time of 18:22:14. They were also first across every checkpoint taking all the station prizes in their division.  Second placers, Team Crunch Time, finished the race with a total completion time of 18:29:38; and team Referendum
took third with a time of 18:34:24.

This year’s race featured teams using single-blade paddles rowing for 174 miles in four phases. Teams were split up into the Male, Female, Mixed, Masters, Pleasure Craft,  Family, Adventure Race, Intramural, andC2 (2 Persons) categories.

Team NICH and Team Crunchtime had given an indication that they would be high rankers in the race, having faced off in the Guinness 2019 Belize River Canoe Challenge hosted by the Belize Canoe Association in February. Team NICH had taken first place in that event, with Crunch Time taking second place.
