Cabinet Agrees to Amend Maritime Areas Act and Appoints Agents for ICJ

By BBN Staff: At its meeting today, Cabinet approved that the Maritime Areas Act of 1992 be taken to the National Assembly for amendment.

Additionally, Cabinet approved that the amendments be tabled at the next sitting of the House of Representatives scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2019, and submitted to the Senate the following day.

Cabinet further approved the appointments of Ambassador Assad Shoman as Agent of the Belize Government and Ambassador Alexis Rosado as Co-Agent.

The role of the Agent is to represent Belize officially at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and to monitor and coordinate the work ahead that Belize’s team of lawyers and other experts will undertake as Belize takes its case to the ICJ.
