By BBN Staff:On June 11, 2019, PUP Leader, John Briceño wrote to the Governor General to advise him to declare vacant the Senate seat of Opposition Senator Eamon Courtenay.
Courtenay stepped down as the Opposition’s lead senator to dedicate his full attention to his new appointment as the Opposition Leader’s representative on the Belize – Guatemala Committee that is working along with Belize’s ICJ International Legal Team.
Briceno also informed the Governor General of his recommendation that Michel Chebat be named as an Opposition Senator.
Briceno thanks Courtenay for his dedicated years of service as senator and for the work he will do as his representative on the Belize Guatemala Committee and looks forward to working closely with newly appointed Senator Michel Chebat as he begins his assignment as the Opposition’s lead senator.
These appointments were announced by the Office of the Governor General on June 20, 2019.
