British army corporal arrested for allegedly spending army money on flights for family in Belize and abusing army access

Posted: Tuesday, October 1, 2019. 11:40 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Corporal (Cpl) Audrey Urbina,32, is being accused of fraudulently spending 17,000 Euros of army money on flights for her family and friends to enjoy ‘holidays’ around the world.

Urbina is accused of abusing her army access so she could have ‘her own personal free travel agency’ to fly ‘where she liked’.

According to The Telegraph, Cpl Urbina reportedly booked dozens of flights for her family and friends to New York, Belize, Guatemala City, Miami and Frankfurt.

In addition, her family was flown to a resort in Cancun with flights Urbina booked.

Urbina also booked trips while she was on maternity leave.

According to the Bulford Military Court, Urbina was a ‘Class 1 admin worker’ for the army whose job was to arrange travel for official trips and deployment.

Urbina was based at Worthy Down Support Branch, near Winchester, Hampshire, and asked agencies for the confirmation email to be sent to her personal email address.

From September 2016 to January 2018, Cpl Urbina allegedly booked scores of flights and rail tickets for herself and 12 others – spending £17,000 in the process.

The article listed the name of one of Urbina’s Belizean sisters who also enjoyed fully paid flights from Belize to London via Miami, then onto Manchester before later going to New York, Miami, and Belize again.

Cpl Urbina also bought flight tickets each for her and her husband to travel from Manchester to Chicago then onto Miami and then Belize.

Another trip for a Belizean woman went from Heathrow to Mexico City onwards to Guatemala City and then Flores [Guatemala].

Urbina was detained in April, 2019 where she admitted to booking some of the flights.

When arrested in April 2019 and interviewed by military police, Cpl Urbina ‘admitted booking some of the flights’ but was apparently confused about others and said she ‘couldn’t remember’.

Cpl Urbina denies 15 counts of fraud, relating to travel bookings and one count of making a false official record in relation to the NATO Travel Order.
