Trial for alleged sex assault of 5-year-old-child

By Aaron Humes: Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford has committed 57-year-old Baltazar Vasquez to trial in the Supreme Court following a preliminary inquiry.

He is accused of committing sexual assault on a child under the age of 16 – five years and four months old at the time of the incident – by penetration and grievous harm.

On March 6, 2019, the child’s mother said she had gone out to the corner grocery shop to change money to give her daughter for school. As she returned home, she met the child wiping her mouth with her hand, Vasquez standing a few feet away.

The little girl told her that Vasquez had just kissed her, touched her and fondled her private area with a finger.

A medical examination found the injuries caused to the child to be grievous harm.

Vasquez’s bail was set at the sum of $6,000 plus two sureties of $3,000 each.

He returns to the Supreme Court at the April session set to kick off on April 6, 2020.
