By BBN Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) informed today that the new 1705kW capacity generation unit sourced from Panama in early January is now scheduled for commissioning on Caye Caulker by Tuesday, February 18th following delays at ports in neighboring countries.
The unit is currently at the port in Santo Tomas, Guatemala, awaiting Customs clearance before transportation by land to the Belize/Guatemala border at Benque Viejo, Cayo.
It is expected that the unit will arrive in Belize, by Wednesday, February 12th then taken to the Port of Belize for transshipment by sea to Caye Caulker.
BEL says that once it arrives in Belize, their team will conduct checks to ensure that the unit functions reliably and consistently, and commission it into service. This process will take approximately three days.
In preparation for the arrival of the unit on the island, BEL conducted upgrades to the Caye Caulker substation last Friday.
BEL further assures customers that all efforts are being made to ensure a reliable supply of electricity to Caye Caulker and will provide updates on the arrival status of the new generation unit.
