By BBN Staff: The Office of the Director of Health Services issued a statement today informing that Belize now has the capacity to do initial screening for COVID-19.

Two health professionals from Belize received training in Mexico City and are now conducting an in house training at Belize’s Central Medical Laboratory.

“Parallel to this, we can confirm that we now have the capacity to do initial screening for COVID-19 as we now have primers and probes to test in country,” the statement noted.

The tests will be carried out on potential/suspect cases following specific screening purposes.

The National Surveillance team continues to monitor for any suspected case of the virus in the country.
