By Aaron Humes: On Wednesday, party leader-elect of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Patrick Faber, and the man he putatively succeeds, John Saldivar, met in an effort to settle past scores and heal old wounds in the latter’s stomping grounds in Belmopan.
The party’s statement reads in part, “The meeting went extremely well and both emerged committed to working together to bring victory for the UDP in the upcoming elections. Both Party Leader-Elect Faber and Hon. Saldivar calls on all colleagues and faithful party supporters to join as we embark on the journey to a historic fourth term for the UDP.”
When we broke the news around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to party Chairman Michael Peyrefitte coming out of the Senate, he told us that while he will wait for official word, it’s nothing less than he expected: “I’m sure one or both of them will let me know what happened in that meeting. But if it comes out that they will present a unified front [then] that’s what we do, we’re the U.D.P. We have no issue with that and that would not surprise me at all. That is what is expected to happen.”
