Over 14 million cases of COVID-19 worldwide

Posted: Friday, July 17, 2020. 1:45 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: On Sunday, July 12 we reported that the COVID-19 pandemic was nearing 13 million cases globally, today, some five days later, the number of cases worldwide now exceed 14 million.

The pandemic, which shows no sign of slowing down, is most active in the United States, where the number of cases is above 3.7 million. Several states in the US have had to reverse their decisions to end lockdowns, as cases began spiking overnight, with some international outlets calling the state of Florida “the new Wu Han” after the city in China where the pandemic first originated.

Brazil is the second-most hit country in the world, with over 2.02 million cases. The country’s government has been largely criticized for its lackluster approach to dealing with the pandemic, with many directly attributing the severity to the poor decisions with regard to lockdowns and social distancing made by Jair Bolsonaro, who later tested positive for COVID-19.

India has surpassed Russia is now the third-most hit country in the world with 1.03 million cases.

Notably, over 8.37 million people have recovered from the virus worldwide.
