By BBN Staff: The Belize Diabetes Association (BDA) is inviting those living with diabetes as well as members of the general public interested in learning more about diabetes to an online information session being held tomorrow, August 22, via Zoom.
The BDA will be hosting the session from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and interested persons can join the meeting by going to https://zoom.us/j/96424758892.
The meeting will focus on how to cope with diabetes during the COVID-19 pandemic and will feature guest speaker Dr. Fernando Cuellar.
The BDA also issued a statement today, reminding those living with diabetes to take extra precautions to protect themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic as those with comorbid conditions are at greater risk. The association is reminding all those living with diabetes to: closely monitor their blood glucose levels, keep a sufficient supply of diabetic medications, maintain their diets and remain physically active.
“There does not seem to be a foreseeable end of this pandemic and it is critical that we all take this virus seriously, to protect ourselves, more so now that there are limited support services from our NHI healthcare provider,” the association said.
The association also cautioned those who do not have diabetes to take preventative measures such as maintaining healthy body weight, keeping regular physical activity and keeping a healthy diet which includes limiting the intake of sugar and saturated fats.
