Facebook food vending more popular than ever

Posted: Wednesday, September 16, 2020. 4:28 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: In June 2020, after making observations, BBN published a report “Facebook food vending is the next big thing.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect people all around the world, everyone is seeking new ways of bringing in some sort of income for their families.

In Belize, the tourism industry took a major hit and Belizeans began finding new ways of bringing in income to support their families.

Though, there has been a gradual increase in some economic activity with the re-opening of stores and other businesses in the country, still thousands of Belizeans remain unemployed.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow has announced the date for reopening the airport as October 1, 2020. But until then and even then, Belizean workers of the tourism industry will find creative new ways to make money.

And, indeed, Facebook food sales became the next big thing.

There has been an increase of marketing on social media for food sales from home.

Included in that list is wings, stuffed jalapenos, burgers, chicken fingers, tamales and some people have began to sell fruits, vegetables and other home-made juices and drinks online.

Undoubtedly, supporting local is the way to go in this crucial time. Purchasing food (if you can) from those near you and supporting them by a Facebook share is also helping to get the word out.

We do not know how long this will last, but we know that if we have each other and can find support in surviving, we will overcome this 2020 pandemic.
