Police move to discourage social activities for Halloween

By Aaron Humes: If you see large groups of kids trick or treating tonight, or more than ten people at a Halloween party, who’re you gonna call?

The Police, of course.

But to avoid that, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has announced that parents should keep their children at home this evening, and if you are out and not properly wearing masks or social distancing, the adults if any will be arrested.

The Quarantine Regulations do permit children under six years of age to not mask up, but in any event, they would have to be out with a parent, guardian, or responsible adult.

Parties, especially with visitors from outside the household, are also discouraged by law, on the basis of being potentially superspreader of COVID-19.

While some have complained of their freedoms being restricted, the Commissioner asks all to recognize and respect these dangerous times and not contribute to reducing the incidence of COVID-19 in Belize.

Entering this final day of October, there are more than 3,400 total cases of COVID-19 in Belize, of which more than 1,200 are active, with 58 deaths countrywide and 11 in the last week or so.
