By Aaron Humes: A number of names have been called in recent days as individuals who will be appointed by the new John Briceño administration as chief executive officers of the various government departments.

Several of these persons are figures from the former Said Musa administration and long-time boosters of the People’s United Party (PUP), blamed in some quarters for the party’s demise in 2008. There is a petition with more than 2,200 signatures calling on the new Prime Minister to refrain from appointing these persons.

Today, Briceño hit back, saying that no such appointments have yet been made.

“According to the Constitution of Belize, all CEO appointments are made by His Excellency the Governor-General, acting upon the advice of the Prime Minister…at the next Cabinet meeting, I will discuss with Cabinet the team of CEO’s that will be responsible for the implementation of #planBelize,” he said, adding that as the Government tackles the problems of crime, unemployment, COVID-19, etc., Belizeans should stay safe and work together to restore national life.
