UDP calls for a unified approach to fighting COVID-19

By BBN Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is calling on the Government of Belize (GOB), the security forces, churches, and all Belizeans to take a unified approach in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to claim lives all over the country.

Leader of the UDP Patrick Faber issued a statement today, emphasizing that he and his party mourn the tragic loss of Dr. Kenneth Guerra and Dr. Kevin Guerra Guerra, twin brothers who died only a day apart from the virus. The UDP called on all religious leaders to continue to offer prayers for those mourning the loss of loved ones due to COVID-19, and for intercession for those still afflicted by it.

The party called on the GOB to reconvene the National Oversight Committee (NOC) to discuss and implement measures that will slow the spread of the virus and pledged its full support of those measures. The UDP also called on authorities to fully enforce the current measures in place to address the spread of the virus, and that a public sensitization campaign with shows like “Ask the Experts” be brought back.

“We call on the Belizean people to adhere to the health and safety protocols that are implemented to protect you. You are the first line of defense and are most responsible for your own safety. Our people are dying. It is time to humble ourselves and embrace a united approach,” the UDP said.
