Posted: Thursday, March 11, 2021. 1:08 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: This week the International Organization for Migration in Belize (IOM Belize) signed an agreement with the Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs signed an agreement aimed at strengthening Belize’s capacity to fight against human trafficking.

The IOM and the Ministry signed the agreement in Belize City yesterday, with Diana Locke, Head of Office signed on behalf of IOM Belize and Minister Dolores Balderamos Garcia signed on behalf of the Ministry. The agreement will see the implementation of upgrades to the Ministry’s ability to gather data through the use of  FAMCare, an online information system developed by the US company Global Vision Technology.

“These systems allow case workers, supervisors and managers to better document cases, leading to more informed decisions, and more appropriate actions for clients. The Ministry uses an application called FAMCare, which is developed by the US company Global Vision Technology. FAMCare has been extensively customized by the Ministry to improve the whole array of services it offers, from early childhood development to support for the elderly,” the Ministry explained.

The agreement will be implemented by under the framework of the Western Hemisphere Program (WHP). The WHP is a regional project funded by the Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) that aims to strengthen the personal capacities of governments and civil society actors to manage migration in a sustainable and humane manner.

The upgrades will be used to support  the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council (A-TIPS), currently chaired by the Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs.
