By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Top-seeded Crooked Tree’s Brilliant walked over 2nd seeded Isabella Bank’s Rural Mix 186 to 61 at Bermudian Landing on Saturday as the Belize National Cricket Association resumed its 2020 Division 2 National Cricket Championship playoffs after the nearly 14-month COVID-19 lockdown.

In the other playoff match on Saturday, 4th seeded Western Eagles (Rancho Dolores) won 104-103 over the visiting 3rd seeded Sugar Boys of Carmelita with 4 wickets in the Division 2 match at Lord’s Bank.

Brilliant’s win qualifies them directly to the BNCA Division 2 Final while Rural Mix gets to live another day and will now play Western Eagles for another shot at the finals.

Suga Boys take fourth place.

BNCA public relations officer Peter Young said the tournament would resume with “all COVID-19 protocols … in place.”

The BNCA said all players, support staff, and umpires are to wear masks, maintain social distance and must wash hands and sanitize regularly.

Players’ temperatures are also being checked before games.

The Belmopan Bandits and Bermudian Landing’s Berlan are playing at Lord’s Bank in the Division One playoffs on Sunday, May 9.

The winner qualifies to the three-game finals against Summer fever who qualified last year.
