Good governance reform getting underway

By Aaron Humes: The government has drafted a Protected Disclosures (Whistleblowers) bill, to be introduced by May 18 and enacted in July assuming satisfactory approval by the unions.

Also drafted has been the Civil Asset Recovery and Unexplained Bill, to respond to claims of corrupt activity by public officers. A Campaign Finance Reform Bill is being drafted and will be completed in August, Briceno said.

An exercise of the rationalization of the Public Service is being conducted, including plans to reduce the workweek by five hours; a land credit for public officers. The government remains committed, Briceno said, to ease the burden on the Service through various measures.
