By Rubén Morales Iglesias: El Salvador, Panama, and Canada win the first leg of the Second Round of the Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
El Salvador had the biggest win away from home on Saturday, as they pounded Saint Kitts and Nevis 4-0 on a brace by David Rugamas and a goal each from Joshua Pérez and Darwin Cerén at Warner Park in Basseterre.
For all intents and purposes, El Salvador have already booked a ticket for the next round considering the return match on Tuesday is going to be at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador.
Canada also got off to a good start as they edged Haiti 1-0 at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Cyle Larin punched in the only goal of the match in the 15th minute.
The return match will be played on Tuesday at the Seatgeek Stadium in Chicago, United States, because of the COVID-19 travel restrictions imposed by Canada.
In the third match yesterday, Panama defended the homefield at the Estadio Nacional Rod Carew in Panama City beating Curaçao 2-1.
Alberto Quintero in the 55’ and Cecilio Waterman in the 77’ put Panama ahead 2-0, but Curaçao kept it tight with a strike by Rangelo Janga in the 86’.
The return match is on Tuesday at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curaçao.
The winners of the home and away games qualify to the Third Round of the Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers.
