By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean-American Justin Williams of team L39ION won the Belize National Road Championship in 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 15 seconds in a sprint to the finish line on the John Smith Road just barely shaking off Oscar Quiroz of the 501 Valvoline Cycling Team who also clocked the same time.
Williams was able to officially compete in the national road race after recently changing nationality affiliation with UCI and USA Cycling from the United States to Belize.
Shawn Codd of G-Flow, who won the U-23 category, rode in third in 3:45:20.
Joslyn Chavarria Jr. of 501 Valvoline took the fourth spot in 3:45:25.
Shane Jones of G-Flow finished in 5th, 1:05 behind in 3:46:20.
The 87-mile National Road Race Championship started at the Crooked Tree junction (Mile 31) on the Philip Goldson Highway, turned right at Ladyville, went onto the Airport Road, the John Smith Road, the George Price Highway from Mile 8 to Hattieville, turning right on to the Boom Road, back to the Philip Goldson Highway and back to the John Smith, and then one more lap on the John Smith-Boom circuit, finishing just before the entrance to Western Paradise.
Eleven minutes and 24 seconds behind Williams and Quiroz, Sherwin Roca of the FAL Cycling Team clocked 3:56:39 in the 6th position. Angel Tzib of Westrac Alliance was 7th in 3:56:41.
The eighth position was taken by Richard Santiago in 3:57:51.
Westrac Alliance placed the next two. Eric Trapp finished 9th and Gian Lino 10th, both in 3:58:40.
In total 24 out of 44 finished.
