By Zoila Palma: Today, the United States Government said that it is excluding AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses from the donations.
Politico reports that the decision was made citing issues at a production plant.
The Biden Administration said it would share 55 million doses with other countries. Those doses will come from the U.S. supply of three vaccines the FDA has cleared for emergency use.
These include Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Meanwhile, the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is yet under review by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Most of the donation of vaccine doses will be sent to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa.
Most of the doses will be shared through COVAX.
An official said the U.S. still plans to send AstraZeneca vaccines abroad once they’ve been cleared.
