By Aaron Humes: Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, Moses “Shyne” Barrow, has insisted his once and still party leader should step aside.
Faber survived a recall challenge at Birds Isle this evening, receiving 226 of 483 votes when needing only 162 to survive the first-ever recall challenge of a political leader.
Writing on social media afterward, Barrow reminded, “The majority of the UDP delegates have spoken and they have said clearly they do not want Patrick Faber to remain Leader of the UDP!!!”
He continued, “Any self-respecting leader who cannot get 50% of the delegates’ votes, would resign.”
Whatever the threshold, both men are now in control of the party and will have to work together as insisted on by party chairman Michael Peyrefitte.
Faber, meanwhile, has said he will sound out his colleagues on whether he can return to the job Shyne now holds, which if the first-time parliamentarian’s rhetoric is to be believed, seems highly unlikely.
We will have Faber’s reaction and response to various party issues in subsequent stories.
