Posted: Saturday, July 17, 2021. 3:27 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Westrac’s Brandon Adolphus of Orange Walk outran the competition by two minutes and nine seconds in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, July 17, 2021, to win the 10K Benque Run in 36 minutes and 41.5 seconds.

Normally Benque would be having its July Fiesta but with the exception of the religious celebration activities were toned down for the second year in a row, so this morning’s race came as welcome activity in Belize’s westernmost town.

The 10K Benque Run organized by Total Time started at 5:30 am at the Centennial Park, went to the Belize-Guatemala border, then to San Jose Succotz, and back to finish at the Centennial Park.

Adolphus’ teammate Victor Figueroa of San Ignacio was second in 38:50.5.

Malcolm’s Garage Luis August of San Ignacio ran in 3rd in 42:51.1 being the first 40+ runner.

M&M Engineering’s Devin Azueta of Santa Elena finished in the fourth position in 43:41.8.

BVMB’s Andres Chiroy of Benque took fifth in 45:07.2. Chiroy was also the first runner in the 25-39 years of age category.

Mynor Cabrejo of San Ignacio finished 6th in 45:51.7 while the FFB’s Andy Albeño of Benque took 7th in 46:35.4.

Brendel Gibson of San Ignacio got the 8th position in 46:55.2 and Shane Lopez of Santa Elena the 9th in 48:10.7.

Western Road Runners’ Amed Figueroa rounded off the Top Ten in 48:51.0.

24 runners competed in the Men’s 10K Benque Run.
