Five men charged with various gang-related offenses after displaying guns in viral social media video

By BBN Staff: A special operation to find the makers of a viral video, seen wantonly displaying weaponry, has netted five suspects.

Police executed search warrants under the terms of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act at the residences of the following: Joseph James, 33, Brown Street; and Brandon Baptist, Hubert Baptist, John Grinage, Jr., and Sheldon Grinage, all of Police Street Extension.

The quintet were detained and charged as follows: Sheldon Grinage for producing the recording; and John Grinage, the Baptists and James for using a video recording for the purpose of gang related activity. Each was also charged with being a member of a gang.

The Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act promulgates offences and penalties for gang membership and activity among other offences. Several have been charged or pleaded guilty under it to facets of gang activity, particularly in Belize City.
