Steven Flowers, accused of murder, leaves court a free man

Posted: Monday, July 19, 2021. 7:55 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Pinks Alley resident Steven Flowers, 28, who was charged with the 2018 stabbing murder of Leon Garcia (Gentle), left the Supreme Court a free man today after the prosecution informed the court it could not proceed with the case.

Crown Counsel from the DPP’s office, Romey Wade, entered a nolle proseque during the case management hearing, which Justice Herbert Lord explained meant that the Crown did not have any evidence or witnesses to testify against Flowers. Lord also warned Flowers that the Crown may bring back the case against him at a later date, however, these instances are rare.

With that, Flowers was allowed to leave after three years and six months on remand at the Belize Central Prison.

Notably, the Crown had two witnesses, one of whom died and the other, after being unavailable several times, said that he did not wish to testify.

Leon Garcia (Gentle) was stabbed several times to the body and once to the chest on the morning of January 1, 2018, during an early morning brawl at the corner of Newtown Barracks and New Road.
