Ministry of Education awaiting advice from health authorities for the resumption of face-to-face classes

Posted: Wednesday, August 4, 2021. 12:28 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology Francis Fonseca, says that his Ministry is awaiting guidance from public health authorities on whether or not schools will be opening for face-to-face instruction at the end of the month.

Fonseca explained that the Ministry has set two dates for the resumption of classes: August 23 for high schools, and August 30 for primary schools, but the type of instruction students will be receiving has not officially been decided as yet. Fonseca went on to say that there are several plans already in place for whatever the situation is at the time of reopening.

“If it is that the Ministry of Health says to us over the next two weeks or so that they are not recommending that we have face to face instruction, then we will have to fall back to our original plan which we already have in place for remote learning, online learning,” Fonseca said. “It’s not just one plan, it’s a plan A, plan B, and plan C.”

He stressed that the hope of the ministry is that the COVID-19 situation will be addressed and the number of cases falls to the point that full face to face instruction can be possible at re-opening but that District Education Centers are working with schools to ensure that they are ready for whatever the situation may be when the time comes.
