Cabinet hails boost in vaccine numbers, supply

By Aaron Humes: Against the headwinds of hesitancy, Belize has managed to vaccinate more than 150 thousand of its population at least once and more than sixty thousand fully.

Cabinet, at its regular meeting on Tuesday, noted that Belize was at around 35 percent of the population having had at least one shot and close to 15 percent fully vaccinated.

To date, the AstraZeneca vaccine has been the sole one being used in Belize, with the exception of Sinopharm for the Chinese/Taiwanese population.

That changed with Wednesday’s arrival of 111,000 Pfizer vaccines, to be used primarily to vaccinate the 58,000 Belizean youth between the ages of 12 to 17 years old, by Cabinet’s decision.

Additionally, tomorrow, Saturday, 112,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines are to arrive in Belize. These are one-shot doses and will be the fourth different vaccine in use in Belize since the start of the vaccination campaign in March.
