By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) said on Friday that a player from the U-15 Belize Boys National Team and another from the U-20 Belize Women’s National Team tested positive after being tested on arrival for training at the FFB Headquarters in Belmopan on Friday afternoon.

The FFB said it always tests the players on arrival and this is the first time anyone has returned positive results.

The two players did not have any interaction with the other players said the FFB which added that they are in isolation at the FFB Headquarters. The parents of the players have been contacted “to discuss the most suitable arrangements for the athletes and their families.”

The FFB noted that following their stringent Covid-19 policy, all players were properly sanitized prior to entering the compound and adhered to social distancing and wearing of masks while waiting to be tested.

The FFB said that on the advice of their health care provider they will conduct another testing session while the players are in camp.

“We take this opportunity to remind the general public that the health and safety of our athletes remains our top priority,” said the FFB. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow the medical advice of our health care provider and the Ministry of Health and Wellness.”

The FFB closed its statement by imploring all to follow all COVID-19 protocols according to the protocols set by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
